Do Polymarket Whales Actually Win? We Checked 1,508 Wallets That Bet $25K+

Everyone assumes a bigger bet just means a bigger gamble. The data says something else.

Every one of 1,508 Polymarket whale wallets plotted by realized profit and loss and sorted from best to worst record, showing a wide profitable majority and a short losing tail at the end
Each point is one wallet's full trading record, not just the trade that flagged it as a whale. Sorted best to worst; symmetric log scale. 1,174 of 1,508 wallets β€” 77.9% β€” sit above zero.

The usual read on a giant Polymarket bet is that someone is either extremely confident or just playing with bigger chips β€” and either way, size alone doesn't tell you whether they're actually right. So we checked. We pulled every wallet that has placed at least one trade of $25,000or more since PolyPeek's whale tracker went live in July 2026, then looked at how those wallets' trading records have actually resolved.

We've done a version of this before. An earlier piece found that the wallets at the very top of the leaderboard β€” the most active, highest-volume traders β€” win 95% to 99%of the time. That's the tip of the pyramid. This time we widened the lens to every wallet that has ever cleared the $25K bar even once, leaderboard regular or one-off bettor, to see whether the edge is a leaderboard artifact or something more general.

The numbers, without the leaderboard survivorship

1,508 of the 1,630 flagged wallets have at least three resolved positions β€” enough to call it a record instead of a coin flip. Of those, 1,174 β€” 77.9%β€” closed net profitable. Between them they're up a combined +$524.9M. The 334 that are underwater have lost $67.2M. Winners outweigh losers by roughly 8.8 to 1.

Sorted from the best trading record to the worst, the shape above is almost the whole story: a wide, gradually descending profitable slope, then a short, steep red drop right at the end. The median winner is up $93,922. The median loser is down $39,896 β€” real money, but less than half of what the median winner made.

It isn't a few lucky giants carrying the average

The obvious objection: maybe a handful of huge, lucky wallets are dragging the average up while everyone else quietly loses. So we split the same 1,508 wallets into seven tiers by the size of the trade that first flagged them, from $25K bets up to $5M and beyond.

Every tier β€” 32 wallets or 439 β€” lands within a few points of the 77.9% average. Bet size predicts how much a whale wins, not whether they win at all.

The profitable share barely moves: 79.7% in the smallest tier, 75%in the largest, everything else within a couple of points of the 77.9% average. What does scale with bet size is how much winners make β€” the median win in the $1M–$5M tier is $415,895, several times the median win one tier down β€” but not whether they win at all.

One honest caveat on what this measures

This is a correlation, not a controlled experiment. Win-rate and P&L come from each wallet's up to 200 most recent resolved positions across all of Polymarket, pulled from the Data API β€” not just the single trade that first put them on our radar. So this measures β€œwallets capable of writing a five-figure ticket tend to have a good record,” not proof that placing a bigger bet makes you more likely to win it. The two travel together and we can't say which way the arrow points β€” probably both: skill accumulates capital, and capital lets you size up.

What this means if you're watching the whale feed

If you're the kind of person who opens a Whale Alert and wonders whether it's worth a second look: the base rate is on your side. A wallet clearing $25K isn't a random gambler swinging big β€” going in, history says roughly three in four of them have a winning record, and that holds whether the trade in front of you is $30K or $3M. It's not a green light to copy the position blindly, but it is a reason to open the market and ask why before scrolling past.
